About
Why this exists
The industry rewards work that looks nice. Looks Right is for the people who can tell when it actually looks right — and who know the difference shows up in activation, retention, and revenue.
The idea
Design decisions, judged by what they earn.
Every issue takes one real product decision and runs the three-part test: does it look right, does it hold up strategically, does it earn its place in the P&L. It names names. It doesn't pretend mediocre work is fine just because it shipped. Every teardown is allowed to sting if the product earned it.
The rule for the newsletter is simple: every issue is a complete, satisfying read on its own. No teasers, nothing you have to click ten times to finish, nothing an LLM could have written.
Who writes it
Oksana Kovalchuk
Oksana is the founder of ANODA and the self-appointed #1 hater of bad UX. She has spent 22 years as a designer and a developer — genuinely both — shipping products people actually use. Along the way: an App of the Day, design awards, and a feature from Mark Zuckerberg.
She writes every issue herself, in her own voice, opinions included.
The honest part
Made by a studio that does this for a living.
Looks Right is published by ANODA, a product design studio. The newsletter doesn't sell you anything — it earns your trust by showing how ANODA thinks about design and the decisions behind it. If you ever want that thinking applied to your own product, you'll know where to find it.
